The Town of Narrabri.

  • Population: 7436

  • Altitude: 240M

  • Aboriginal Meaning: Forked Waters

Location: Narrabri is located 580kms North North West of Sydney and 580 kilometres South West of Brisbane, both of which are about a 6 hour drive.

Narrabri is 103 kilometres S of Moree, 119 kilometres NE of Coonabarabran, 190 kilometres E of Walgett and 278 kilometres NE of Dubbo.

Distances of Narrabri from other capital cities are as follows:

  • Melbourne- 1105 kilometres NE (12 hours)

  • Canberra-approx 695 kilometres N (8 hours)

  • Adelaide- approx: 1450 kilometres NE (15 hours)

  • Perth- approx: 3760 kilometres E (39 hours)

  • Darwin- approx: 3400 kilometres SE (35 hours)

  • Hobart- approx: 1800 kilometres N (32 hours)

Narrabri is the Administration Centre for the Narrabri Shire Council and is a town with wonderful facilities and opportunities. The Namoi River runs through the centre of town and there are many lovely places to picnic on the banks of the river. There is also a Lake in the western area of town which is surrounded by parkland. Narrabri is situated at the foot of the Nandewar ranges and is a strong agricultural area. Some of the most productive and fertile land is located at Narrabri. Narrabri produces some of the highest quality cotton, wheat, crops and cattle.

Tourist attractions in the area include, Yarrie Lake, Mt Kaputar National Park, Sawn Rocks, Australia Telescope and many other wonders of nature.

There are two supermarkets, 8 Pubs, 3 clubs, a rugby, squash, tennis and netball courts, 18 hole golf course, well kept gardens and sporting ovals, 2 Chemists, Hospital, Police Station, Ambulance, Fire Station, Mechanics, Dentist, Optometrist, Doctors, restaurants, fast food outlets,  sports store, real estate agents, stock and station agents, airport, saleyards, clothing stores, boutiques, jewellery stores, toy stores, appliance stores, furniture stores, saddlery, and just about every tradesman imaginable. Narrabri has also recently constructed a multi cinema complex and 1000 seat auditorium called The Crossing Theatre.
