The village of Pilliga
Population: 210
Pilliga is situated 105 kilometres West of Narrabri, approximately 60 kilometres South West of Wee Waa and 35 kilometres North West of Gwabegar. It takes approximately 1 hour to travel from Narrabri to Pilliga with the first 80 kilometres (approx) being sealed road. (The section of road from Cuttabri to Pilliga is not sealed at present but more work will be done on this section of road in the next 2 years). Pilliga is accessible from five directions and was once an important centre on the Cobb and Co route.
Nestled in amongst the varying scrub and surrounding sandy creek beds Pilliga has many charming features. It is the home to an artesian bore bath, a historic cemetery with authentic Indian tombs and many other historical sights which are relics of the old Cobb & Co days. Pilliga has an endearing charm, floating amongst a sea of distinctive pine trees and bushland, it shows a colourful array of Australian wildlife. Pilliga has facilities such as a Police Station, Post Office, Primary School, Hotel, Cafe and General Store, Park with Public amenities, Tennis Courts and Club, Cricket Ground and Club, racecourse, visiting Doctor, supported playgroup and Fishing Social Club. There are many scenic sites just out of town along the Namoi River. Pilliga has also developed an outdoor multipurpose court at its Community Link Centre.
