Dog Pounds and Retrieving an Impounded Animal

Dog Pounds and Retrieving an Impounded Animal.

Narrabri Shire Council has three dog pounds within its boundaries located at Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri.

The Narrabri Pound is located at The Narrabri Livestock Selling Centre, Namoi Street, Narrabri. The Wee Waa Pound is located inside the Wee Waa sewerage works on the Wee Waa- Pilliga Road over the Lagoon bridge The Boggabri Pound is located inside the Boggabri Sewerage works on the left hand side of the Kamilaroi Hwy just before entering Boggabri from Narrabri.

The Council pounds are open business hours (9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday) and both the Wee Waa and Narrabri pounds have been fitted with Surrender Pens which allow residents to either:-

1) Surrender dogs which they believe they cannot look after anymore;
2) Surrender a dog that is roaming, uncontrolled, and whose owner cannot be identified.

Dogs that are injured should not be delivered to the pound if the animal is suffering. In the event that an injured animal comes under your notice, the animal should be taken to the nearest vet for treatment.

A person wishing to retrieve an animal from the pound after it has been impounded will be required to pay the following fees and charges before the animal is returned to their care:
1) $150.00, $40.00 or $15.00 dollar registration fee, depending on the registration type ie de-sexed
2) $53.00 micro-chipping fee
3) minimum $55.00 impounding fee or $15.00 per day whichever is the greater.
4) Any veterinary costs that may have been involved.
5) Payment of any damages that the dog may have caused whilst roaming ie. injury to stock, another animal or property

Note: Costs will vary on most occasions.

Please contact Council's Ranger on (02) 6799 6855 for further information.
