Narrabri Shire is maximising its position as a strong, important and diversified agricultural area. The fertile black soil plains are highly sought after and grow world class product. The product is as varied and as rich as the people that live here and includes cotton, wheat, canola, sorghum and pulses including Faba Beans, Chick Peas, Mung Beans and Lupins. In addition, Narrabri Shire is a strong producer of cattle and prime lambs.
From a geographic perspective, Narrabri is a hub to not only the agricultural industry within our Shire but some surrounding Council areas as well. Narrabri Shire is strategically positioned halfway between Sydney and Brisbane with easy access to road and rail transportation. The current rail infrastructure from northern New South Wales to both Sydney and Newcastle ports allows Narrabri and surrounding Shires products to be efficiently exported to the world.
Narrabri Shire is on the radar of large world class agricultural organisations that have facilities with in the local government area. These companies include Cargill, Louis Dreyfus, Viterra, Queensland Cotton and Australia Milling. We also have a range of strong national organisations including Namoi Cotton, Auscott Limited, Cotton Seed Distributors, Graincorp, CLAAS Harvest Centre, McGregor Gourlay and Kenway and Clark.
