Q. When is the Narrabri tip open?

Q. What day is my bin supposed to be collected?

The day your bin is collected depends on what town you live in or what area of Narrabri you live in. Baan Baa and Boggabri have collection on Monday. Wee Waa has collection on Tuesday and Narrabri is divided into three sections and your rubbish will be either collected on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Please consult the map to find out what day your bins would be collected.

Q: What recycling week is it this week?

Each recycling bin is collected fortnightly on alternate weeks. Your normal household garbage is collected weekly. Refer to Recycling Calender and Guide to view which week your recycling is collected.

Q. I have seen a tree on Council land and feel it is dangerous, what should I do about it?

Contact Council's Engineering Department on (02) 6799 6855 to explain the matter. The operator will take your details and pass them through to Council's Parks & Gardens Co-ordinator.

Please note, that if the tree is extremely close to the power lines, the matter must be handled by a qualified linesman from Country Energy. Please refer the matter directly to Country Energy by calling 132 366.

Q. How can I obtain a tree to grow on the footpath outside my house?

The possibility of obtaining Trees to be grown on the footpath can be discussed with Council's Parks & Gardens Co-ordinator on (02) 6799 6877.

Q. How do I get on Council's Expression of Interest - Hire of Private Plant list?

Contact Council's Engineering Department on (02) 6799 6877 who will provide you with the correct forms for the type of plant you wish to hire to Council.

Q. What do I do if I run out of water and I am not connected to a town water supply?

You can call a Watercart contractor or purchase water directly from Council (Please contact Council to determine the required fees). You must have your own means of transport for carting the water and need to contact Council to organise an outlet point to draw water from. Q. What do I do to get a sign put up on a Shire Road or Council street?

Write a letter to Council's General Manager who will refer the matter to the Narrabri Shire Local Traffic Facilities Committee who meet once a month. Such correspondence should be addressed to:

Q. What do I need to do if I want to put an urban driveway into my residence?

See the Engineering Services Department to obtain the appropriate forms. An inspection fee is applicable and must be paid prior to the Council inspection taking place. Please contact Engineering Services on (02) 6799 6877 to determine the correct fee.

Q. How do I apply for a job with Council?

Please refer to the Guide for Applicants within the Available Jobs section of this webiste.  This guide will outline the standard of application expected by Human Resources and the recruitment process followed by Council officers.

Q. How do I book an oval?

An application form must be completed before booking an oval and can be found in the Sporting Ovals section of this site. To book a sporting field please complete the form.

Q.What times do the pools open?

The swimming pool season runs from 1st October to 31st March each year. Pool hours can be obtained from Council’s Swimming Pool Operations Plan.

Q. What policies are in place for the nature strip in front of my property?

As the nature strip outside your property may contain services (phone, electricity and sewerage) which could be damaged by tree plantings; planting or landscaping approval is required before new activities are undertaken. Landscaping is covered in Council’s Maintenance of Nature Strips in Urban Areas Policy whilst tree maintenance / removal / and plantings is governed by Council’s Public Space Tree Policy. Both of these policies can be viewed in the Policy Register on this website.

Q. What do I do if there are problems with my sewer?

If it is an internal problem (inside the property boundary) it is the owners responsibility to correct the problem and a plumber should be contacted. If it is a problem with the main sewer line you should contact Council's Engineering Services Department on (02) 6799 6877. Q. Can I get an industrial sized bin for the rubbish at my building site?

To arrange for an industrial bin to be delivered to your building block, you need to contact Namoi Waste Corp on (02) 6792 4766 and explain why you need the bin and what name and address the bin has to be delivered to. If there are any special requirements, eg: the bin is to be delivered through the back entrance to the property, you will also need to notify the operator at this stage. Bin delivery usually takes about 24 hours.

Q. I have built a new house and just moved in, how do I obtain a garbage bin?

To arrange for delivery of a new bin, you need to contact Engineering Services on (02) 6799 6854 and explain that you have built a house and need a new garbage bin. You will also be asked to provide your name and address of where the bin is to be delivered. You will be charged for the bin in your rates. (Only applicable to towns that receive garbage service - Narrabri, Wee Waa, Baan Baa and Boggabri.)

Q. I need to dispose of a specific material, where can I put it?

For disposal of materials such as asbestos and tyres at Council's Garbage Depot, contact Councils Engineering Services on (02) 6799 6854 to arrange where to dispose the material. Visit the Garbage Tips section of this site for further information on services available.

Q. What do I do if I need another bin?

If you require another bin, and are a town resident of Narrabri, Boggabri, Baan Baa or Wee Waa, you need to contact Engineering Services on (02) 6799 6854 to arrange for an extra bin to be delivered to your premises. You will need to inform the operator of your name and the location of the property. You will be charged for the extra bin in your rates notice.

Q. What happens if my bin is stolen or broken?

If your bin is stolen or damaged, call Engineering Services on (02) 6799 6854 to report what has happened. The bin will be replaced or repaired at no cost to the owner of the property. You will need to inform Engineering Services of your name and the location of the property.

The towns of Narrabri, Boggabri, Wee Waa and Baan Baa have a garbage collection service.

Q. How do I arrange a meeting with the a member of staff at Council ?

To make an appointment to see any member of staff please contact Council on (02) 6799 6866 an request and appointment with the required person. You will need to explain what the meeting will be regarding, and what time and date you would like to see the Staff Member. The Secretary will advise if the required time is suitable and will also take your name and phone number for contact reasons.

Q. How can I book the Community Caravan?

You can book the Community Caravan by calling (02) 6799 6866, where you will need to give a contact name and telephone number, the organisation name, and the dates requested.

Keys can be picked up on the day of use or after 4.00pm the day before you need the caravan. The keys for the caravan need to be returned the same day, before 4.00pm.

Q. How much does the Community Caravan cost?

When you pick the keys up, a refundable fee of $5.00 is requested. When you return the keys, the money will be refunded.

Q. How do I arrange for a meeting with the Director Corporate Services?

You need to contact his secretary on (02) 6799 6832. The secretary will need to know your name, the organisation's name (if you have one), contact telephone number, and what the meeting will be regarding.

You need to contact the Administration Officer in the General Manager's Department on (02) 6799 6833. The Administration Officer will need to know your name, the organisation's name (if you have one), contact telephone number, and what the meeting will be regarding.

Q. I have moved house and need to change the address on my dog registration.

Council Council’s Ranger on (02) 6799 6855 or complete a Change of Address form including the chip number with the changes to be made clearly marked on the form.  Council will then amend your details so they are correct and forward you a new certificate of registration.  The form can be posted to you, collected from the Administration Building at 46-48 Maitland Street or downloaded from the Companion Animal Registration and Microchipping page.  The original document should then be posted back to Council or presented over the counter.

Q. What do I do about a barking dog?

Contact Council’s Environmental Services Section on (02) 6799 6855 to report the problem.  The Administration Officer will complete a formal customer service request to be addressed by the Ranger and you will also be asked to provide as much detail as possible regarding the problem animal including your name, address and phone number.

Q. What do I need to do if my registered dog has died?

Contact Council’s Environmental Services Section of (02) 6799 6855 to let them know within 28 days of the death.  Your details will be changed so they are correct.  No certification will be forwarded unless requested.  Death of Dangerous Dogs must be notified to Council within 24 hours.

Q. How old does my companion animal have to be before it needs to be microchipped and registered?

As at 1 July 1999 all dogs and cats must be microchipped at point of sale, change of ownership or by 12 weeks of age(which ever happens first).  The animal must be registered by the time it is six months old.

Q. Am I allowed to keep a rooster or chickens in town?

Council prohibits the keeping of roosters or any poultry within townships.

Q. How many dogs am I allowed to have?

A maximum of two dogs can be kept within the town.  Please contact Council’s Ranger on (02) 6799 6855 for keeping of dogs on blocks of land outside town boundaries.

Q. How do I lodge a Development Application?

To lodge a development an application form must be completed.  Application forms may be obtained by email, post or picked up at the Environmental Services Counter.  Three copies of the proposed work plan are required when the application is lodged, along with three copies of the site plan and the required fee as determined by Council staff.  If the work is valued at over $25,000 Long Service Levy Payment will also need to be paid on lodgement which is currently effective 2008, 0.2% of the cost of the work.  The fee payable for the development application is calculated on the value of the work proposed.  For any enquiries on lodgement of a development application or required fees, contact Environmental Services (02) 6799 6855.

Q. I want to subdivide my land, how does this happen?

To subdivide land, you need to lodge a Development Application with Council with three copies of the proposed plans (concept plan indicating existing accesses, boundaries, services and proposed accesses) and the applicable fee of $250 for the application and $40 for each new lot created.  If the subdivision involves a new road there will be an additional fee of $250.  The application will then be assessed and subdivision may only take place if approval is granted by Council.  For further information regarding subdivision of land, contact Council’s Senior Strategic Planner in the Environmental Services Section on (02) 6799 6855.

Q. How do I arrange a meeting with the Manager of Environmental Services?

Contact the Environmental Services Administration Officer on (02) 6799 6855 to arrange the appointment.  You will need to explain what the meeting will be regarding, and what time and date you would like to see the Manager.  You will be advised if the required time is suitable and the officer will also take you name and phone number for contact reasons.

Q. How do I arrange to meet with the Planners or Health and Building Officer?

Contact the Environmental Services Section on (02) 6799 6855 to arrange the meeting.  You will need to explain what the meeting will be regarding and what time and date you would like to meet with the Town Planner.  The Environmental Services Administration Officer will advise if the required time is suitable and will also take your name and phone number for contact reasons.

Q. How do I obtain a Drainage Diagram?

You need to apply for the Drainage Diagram by completing the application form which can be downloaded from the Planning & Development Application Forms page, or emailed, posted or faxed to you, and forwarding the form along with payment of $50.  The diagram can be posted, emailed or faxed to you.

Q. How much does a drainage diagram cost?

There is currently a search fee of $50.00* for drainage diagrams. In some instances, there may not be a drainage diagram available, however, the search fee is non refundable. Please remember that Council only has drainage diagrams for properties that are connected to town water and sewerage supplies.

Q. How do I book an inspection?

Contact Environmental Services on (02) 6799 6855 or call into the counter at the Administration Building.  Council needs 24 hours notice to conduct an inspection.  Please have your application number ready to assist in the booking process.

Q. How close can I build to my boundary?

For general residential building needing Complying Development Consent , you can build with consent from Council 6m from the front boundary (wall to be 6m), and 1m (wall to be 1m) from the side and rear boundaries.

You can write a letter advising Council of the changed property name and Council will amend their records. It is also advised that you notify the Rural Lands Protection Board of the change as well.
