Progressive Council

Narrabri Shire Council is a dynamic and progressive organisation across all sectors that it administers. It has staffing levels of approximately 130 professionals and looks after a population of approximately 14,000 across 13,065 square kilometres.

Within its structure, Council has recently created an Economic Development Section to market, promote, facilitate and encourage economic development within the Shire.

Officers within the Economic Development Section are on hand to provide valuable and practical information, advice, contacts and referrals to community, industry and government departments to facilitate a seamless transition for your business to move to Narrabri Shire.

The Economic Development Section of Narrabri Shire Council has been working collaboratively with a range of local business and industry groups and government departments to ascertain local requirements. These objectives have been formulated using surveys and community consultations with the outcome being the production of strategic plans. Suggested actions are achievable with both the Economic Development Section and community bodies working towards achievable outcomes. Strategic documents undertaken to date are:

Provides local communities with a mechanism for collecting information on the makeup of the local economy.

Community Economic Development Strategic Plans <click here>
The programme provides an opportunity to undertake a community planning process and to implement projects that have business and community support with the result being new economic opportunities.

Coal Mining & Gas Extraction Position Paper <click here>
Commissioned report to encourage existing and new ancillary businesses to innovate and maximise potential of emerging resource industries.

Tourism Strategy & Action Plan
Commissioned report to expand tourism activity within Narrabri Shire and facilitate new projects to promote Narrabri Shire as a tourist destination.

Boggabri Caravan Park Business Plan and Plan of Management
Report to develop the Boggabri Caravan Park to bring the park to a higher standard of accommodation and install an improved management system.

The Crossing Theatre Business Plan and Plan of Management
Report to investigate the most suitable mode of management for The Crossing Theatre and the direction for the theatres future growth.

The Economic Development Section can assist existing and new industry and business with a range of information. An indication of the roles of the Economic Development Section are listed below:

  • Conference meetings and event promotions.
  • Community integration through contacts and facilitation.
  • Direction in relation to who you need to talk to in Council to progress your project.
  • Contacts with Commonwealth and State government departments as well as local business and community organisations.
  • Provision of research Shire quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • All aspects of tourism requirements.
