Shire Snapshots Photography Competition Launched

Last modified: November 28, 2007 - 10:54 AM

Narrabri Shire Council is launching a Shire wide photography competition for Narrabri Shire residents.

Narrabri Shire Council has now launched its “Shire Snapshot” Photography Competition which is open to all residents of Narrabri Shire apart from Council employees and Councillors. Photos should capture local people, local places or local scenery around Narrabri Shire.

This is the first time such a competition has been run in Narrabri Shire and it is open to both amateur and professional photographers. All photos submitted will be added to Council’s Digital Photo Library and will be used in new promotional materials being created by Council.   Council is currently creating a new promotional suite of Tourism and Business and Residents brochures as well as a new Tourism and Council website.

“This is a great opportunity for Council to build up its Digital Photo Library with meaningful images from the community,” said Councils Community Development Officer, Alice Freeman. “We are looking forward to seeing how creative people can be with capturing the spirit of Narrabri Shire and using some of these images in our promotional materials.”

Entrants are able to put two of their best photographs into the competition and there is a first prize of $500. A number of highly commended entries will also be selected and displayed at The Crossing Theatre. Council will choose a judging panel of five people to select the winning and highly commended entries. This panel will consist of a professional photographer from outside of Narrabri Shire, Mayor George Sevil and a community member from Wee Waa, Boggabri and Narrabri. Entrant’s names will be withheld throughout the judging period and announced once the final decision is made.

“As this is the first time Council has run such a competition we have created strict guidelines for entrants to abide by,” continued Alice Freeman, “It is important that all entrants read through the Entry Form and Terms of Entry before they start taking their photos to ensure they are within the guidelines.” All photos must be supplied to Council on a CD Digital format as well as blown up to an A4 image on photographic paper.
