Waste > Art & Design 2008 Competition

Competition opens on 28 April – Entries close 20 June  

Narrabri Shire Council together with Northern Inland Regional Waste will open the 2008 Waste > Art & Design Competition for entries on Monday 28 April 2008.

This unique art competition and exhibition is open to all residents of the Narrabri Shire area. It will celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste in our community through art, sculpture and graphic design. The competition will include categories to challenge and stimulate the imagination, which are: 

Primary School Section: 2D –    Posters / Painting / Collage3D –    Sculpture / Mixed Media / Functional Art / Wearable Art 

Secondary School Section:2D –    Posters / Painting / Collage3D –    Sculpture / Mixed Media / Functional Art / Wearable Art 

Open/Community Section:2D –    Posters / Painting / Collage3D –    Sculpture / Mixed Media / Functional Art / Wearable Art

The local competition will be judged on 27 June 2008 with the winners from each group and category to be announced on 1 July 2008. A local exhibition of artworks will be held at Narrabri Shire Council Chambers from 1 - 11 July 2008.                                           

All eligible winners in the Narrabri Shire Council competition will go on to compete in the Regional Waste > Art & Design Competition to be conducted by Northern Inland Regional Waste from 4 - 15 August 2008. The Regional Competition and Exhibition, sponsored by Smorgon Steel Recycling, will feature winning entries from local competitions held across eight council areas in the New England and North West Regions.  “This competition is designed to challenge the way we look at waste, and gives aspiring artists the chance to creatively communicate the waste reduction message” said Kate Newlan, Program Coordinator for Northern Inland Regional Waste.
