Infrastructure Updates

Discover the latest developments spanning the entire shire, including crucial information on road maintenance, water services, design and contracts, projects and assets, fleet management, waste initiatives, and the ongoing upkeep and improvements of our parks and open spaces.

Aligned with our 2022/2026 Delivery Program and 2023/2024 Operational Plan, we are dedicated to delivering essential infrastructure projects throughout the Shire. Roads
Rehab works continue on Yarrie Lake Road. 

Waste
Stockpiling of steel and concrete has been completed in preparation for recycling at Narrabri Waste Management Facility. 

Parks
Preparation of sports fields for summer sports is underway. 
Slashing of open spaces continues and vegetation control at cemeteries is underway.

Water
Water main works are continuing in Wee Waa.

Roads
Shoulder sealing works in Wee Waa Street, Boggabri and Maitland Street, Wee Waa.

Waste
Drainage works, cells works and steel recycling preparation at Narrabri Waste Management Facility.

Parks
- Wee Waa Multi-Purpose Courts: shelter slab and court access works.
- Sports field aeration works are underway at Narrabri's Cooma and Leitch ovals.

Water
Water main works are continuing in Wee Waa.

Wee Waa Multi-Sport Courts
Surface has been laid and fencing completed. Final stages of the project will be installation of shelter and seating.

Roads
Wet weather has caused issues to escalate on rods, the team have been busy rectifying however the weather has been delaying the majority of repair works.

LEMC
The LEMC met this week, this quarter the major risk was determined to be flooding.
The agency are prepared for any such event.

Selina / Guest Street Footpath
In the early hours on the morning following the concrete pour, vandalism occurred. A contractor has been engaged to rectify the damage.

Air Scouring
Program continues across Narrabri, with positive results thus far.

Plans ready for the Flood Risk Management Committee briefing on Monday, 12 August.

Parks and open space maintenance

Work has continued on garden preparation, including mulching.

University students have assisted with tree planting along Tibereena Street. This was an initiative organised by the Lions Club, bringing 100 students to towns across NSW and QLD. Narrabri hosted 40 students.

Jubilee Oval

Boggabri’s Jubilee Oval is prepped and ready for athletics.

Boggabri shared path

Works on the Boggabri shared path are coming to an end, with only minor works to be completed.

Water and sewer services maintenance

Proactive flushing, which increases water quality, has been completed.

Works at Nandewar Street are also coming to an end. The team, together with the use of a contractor, has rectified the broken main.

Tourism and Cultural Hub

The team has completed a site inspection to confirm the site services align with the design. Tender preparation has been initiated and contract endorsement is expected later in the calendar year.

Dewhurst Street

Investigation into the scope of rectifications works to minimise drainage issues along Dewhurst Street has been initiated.

Millie Road rehab

The rehab project on a section of Millie Road has been completed. Please see the progress image below.

Wee Waa Multi-Purpose Courts

Works recommencing this week with fencing works and landscaping.

Dangar Park irrigation

Power supply and connection to be completed this week.

Wee Waa CBD lighting issues

There was a partial lighting outage within the Wee Waa CBD. Troubleshooting is ongoing with an electrician to rectify the issue.

Doreen Lane rehab

Further sealing was completed on the Doreen Lane section of rehab.

TfNSW Spring Creek Bridge (Kamilaroi Highway)

TfNSW has advised that the tender process for the new bridge is coming to an end and a contractor will be awarded in July, noting TfNSW media will be released in due course.

TfNSW also detailed that the side track will commence utilisation in the coming weeks.

Narrabri CBD Cleaning
Street cleaning to be completed this week. High-pressure cleaning to commence in Wee Waa in the following weeks.

Narrabri CBD Refurbs
Painting is ongoing in the Narrabri CBD on the rotundas. Work is expected to be finished this week.

Narrabri Dangar Park Grandstand Project
Contractor will be onsite next week to finalise layout in preparation of the DA process.

Splash Pad Projects
Tender assessment is in progress. 

Rangari Road Rehab
Rehab on section of seal commenced last week, with seal scheduled this week.

Fitzroy Street Water Mains Renewal
Water main renewal is coming to an end. A component of the contract requires the contractor to slip line the existing 200mm cast iron main with the new water main that is of a smaller diameter. By doing this, we avoid having to excavate and restore over 250m of road reserve, and we cross a railway easement at a level crossing without having to enter the ARTC exclusion zones.

Wee Waa Storm Water
Contractor has been engaged to perform further desilting and clearing grass/ trees from drains within the levee. 

Week Ending: June 9, 2024

Wee Waa Multi-Purpose Courts
Construction is ongoing, with contractors onsite pouring concrete slab.
This slab is required to cure for 10-14 days before any further works on the courts.

Pilliga Road
Last section sealed; floodway works remaining which is being contracted out. Council is currently in the tender preparation process.

Wee Waa CBD
Indigenous banners have been installed on Wee Waa CBD, in recognition of Reconciliation Week.

Wee Waa Storm Water Channels
Contractor engaged and onsite completing de-silting and cleaning out of drainage channels.

Water Maintenance
Air scouring is ongoing in Wee Waa. Proactive flushing and a variety of water main rectification works have also been performed.

Doreen Lane and Pilliga Road
Stabilising and sealing completed on sections of road this week.

Parks and Open Spaces Activities
New grass planted on site at the Narrabri Lawn Cemetery. Soft fall has been toped up Blanche Peadon Park. Mulch applied to garden beds to keep plants warm and thriving during winter. Tree removal completed, this occurs when the tree is causing issues either with root, branches or roots creating safety issues.

Waste Management
The Waste Services Team are very proud of all of their sites across the shire, and go to lengths to ensure these sites are aesthetically appealing. It is ongoing and a work in progress so our ratepayers can see that as a Council we are progressive and care about the community we live in.
