Youth Council
What is the Narrabri Shire Youth Council?
The Youth Council is a Committee of young people established by Narrabri Shire Council in 2021.
The Youth Council is made up of Council’s Community Development Coordinator and up to twelve young people aged 12-24yrs that reside or attend school within the Narrabri Shire Local Government Area.
Youth Councillors will be appointed to the Youth Council for a term 24 months commencing in October each year.
The Youth Council is also the lead stakeholder in the implementation and review of Council's Youth Strategy, a four-year guide developed to provide strategic direction for the delivery of support, programs, activities, and events that meet the needs of our diverse population of young people.

What does the Youth Council do?

Take a leadership role in the planning and organisation of events for young people, including local Youth Week celebrations, cinema screenings and music events;

Provide a forum for young people to have a say on issues important to them;

Participate in community life and support other youth organisations and services; and
What are the Youth Council’s Objectives?

Work collaboratively with Youth Inter-agencies to run “Youth Week” programs/events across the Shire;

Provide advice and input to initiatives across the Shire that include Youth;

Liaise with “Youth Groups” to promote activities across the Shire;

Improve coordination and identify gaps in services for the Youth of the Shire;

Provide advice and assistance to Narrabri Shire Council on methods to enhance engagement with Youth in the Shire on issues relating to Youth; and

Attend Youth forums and conferences where required and approved by GM delegates.
