Sporting Ovals & Fields

Narrabri Shire has many sporting ovals and parks. If you require booking an oval for an event you must gain approval through Council. If you would like to utilise one of these facilities please complete an Application for Use of Council's Sporting Facilities.

All applications must be lodged at least one month in advance and specify all details required including line marking, lighting and toilet facilities. These facilities must be used in accordance with Councils conditions as prescribed in the application approval.

Oval, Sporting Fields & Recreational Park Locations

Council has many ovals and sporting fields within its boundaries. There are:

14 in Narrabri;
5 in Wee Waa;
1 in Gwabegar;
7 in Boggabri and several other recreation reserves throughout the Shire.

A detailed listing of the main ovals that can be booked through Council is as follows.

NARRABRI

Collins Park (No.1 oval) located in Tibbereena Street, Narrabri on the northern side of Narrabri Creek at the intersection of Dewhurst and Tibbereena Streets. It has a lovely grandstand, flood lighting and traditionally hosts Narrabri Rugby League in winter and cricket in summer.

Hogan Oval (No.2 oval) located in Tibbereena Street, Narrabri and has lighting for night games and training. This oval is traditionally used for school sporting events, touch football, softball, baseball and cricket. It is located next to the Narrabri Creek Bridge and Leitch Oval. The Narrabri Skate Park is located near Hogan and Leitch Ovals in close proximity to Narrabri's CBD. 

Leitch Oval (No.3 oval) located directly next to Hogan oval in Tibbereena Street, Narrabri and is situated next to the Narrabri Visitor Information Centre and has night lights for games and training. Leitch Oval is traditionally used for school sporting events, touch football, softball and baseball and cricket.

Gately Field located on Cooma Road and is used traditionally for soccer, summer touch football and cricket. It is on the corner of Cooma Road and Boheena Street.

Cameron Park located in Cameron Street, on the Corner of Dangar Street/Newell Highway on the Western Side of the Narrabri Creek Bridge. It is the location of the Gypsy Willow Markets, which are held on the first Saturday of every month. There is also a concrete boat ramp at this park into Narrabri Creek.

Cooma Oval located in Ugoa Street, near to the corner of Cooma Road. Cooma Oval is traditionally used for junior rugby league and other such junior sporting events.

Dangar Park located at the end of Boheena Street Narrabri, at the intersection of Wukawa Street. It is the home to Narrabri Rugby Union and boasts ample seating (including under cover seating) and a club house. It has lighting and is therefore capable of hosting night games.

WEE WAA

Dangar Park located on Cowper Street, between Nelson and George Streets. It is a general park that is used for a variety of sporting and special events.

Cook Oval is located on the Kamilaroi Highway on the Eastern side of town. It is the home to the Wee Waa Rugby League Football Club and the Wee Waa Soccer Club. The oval has three sections, the Main Oval, Soccer Oval and Athletics Field. There is floodlighting and a canteen with amenities. The Wee Waa Skate Park is located adjacent to Cook Oval in close proximity to Wee Waa High School. 

Ludowici Park is located on Alma Street next to the swimming pool. It is a small park featuring play equipment for children and public amenities.

Rotary Park is located next to the old Wee Waa High School on Rose Street. It is a small park and features some play equipment and public amenities.

BOGGABRI

Jubilee Park is located on the corner of Hull Street and Rees Avenue. It is traditionally used for rugby league, softball, athletics carnival and school sport. It has a new amenity building with toilets and showers as well as a canteen facility.

Kelvin Vickery Park is located on the corner of Brent and Merton Streets. It is a small park featuring play equipment for children, public amenities, electric BBQ, four picnic tables, a skate park and tennis courts.

Anzac Park is located on the Kamilaroi Highway / Wee Waa Street. It has an amenities block and two picnic tables.

Middle Park is located on Merton Street and has two picnic tables.

Rotary Park is located on the corner of Grantham and Laidlaw Street. There are no public amenities or play equipment available at this park.

 
Sporting Fields Closures

Booking one of Council's Sporting Facilities, Ovals, Parks or Swimming Pools

Members of the community are more than welcome to use the Council maintained sporting facilities, ovals, parks and swimming pools. In order to cover public liability requirements and to save double booking an application form must be completed and submitted to Council's Community Facilities Section at least one month prior to the required date for use of the facility.

For use of Council's swimming pools outside official opening hours a minimum of three months notice is required as it will incur an unbudgeted expense and staffing arrangements must be made.

Please note that you are required to include a copy of your organisation's $10 million public liability insurance with this application.
