Narrabri Shire confirms water supply meets updated PFAS Guidelines

Narrabri Shire Council has confirmed that its drinking water supply meets updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, following a review of the guidelines by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The NHMRC’s updated guidelines confirm new, lower values for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australian drinking water supplies.
As per Council’s monthly PFAS testing of the Narrabri Town Water Supply, the testing results from 24 June 2025 identified PFAS levels below the updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines:

Council will continue to regularly test the water supply and publish the results on its website.
NSW Health is continuing to recommend that private bore owners consider testing their groundwater.
