Published on 09 November 2023
Council is undertaking works on the following projects:
- Culgoora Road Corner upgrade
- Pilliga Road upgrade
- Old Narrabri and Turrawan Road Intersection upgrade
We'll be working on these projects between 6.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and required Saturdays from 6.30am to 5pm.
Traffic control will be in place for the safety of motorists and workers - including lane closures, reduced speed limits and alternating stop/slow zones.
If you're travelling in the areas, please plan ahead (including wide-load and heavy vehicles), check signage and allow for delays.
Council and its contractors will endeavour to keep disruptions to a minimum in the work areas.
Culgoora Road Corner upgrade
These works are the final stage of the Culgoora Road Upgrade, with works expected to continue through to March 2024.
Works include upgrading the road pavement and widening the road shoulders to 9 metres. Upgrades will improve access and connectivity for freight, support the use of high-performance vehicles and improve road safety for all users.
Pilliga Road upgrade
Construction is in full swing on the new 20-kilometre stretch of the Pilliga Road between Pilliga and Wee Waa. The $7.84 million upgrade involves reconstructing major flood ways and large sections of road pavement, and is a major step forward in the transformation of this vital route.
All levels of government have come together to fund this project, including $4.98 million from the Australian Government, more than $2 million provided by the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads Program and $800,000 contributed by the Narrabri Shire Council.
Works are expected to be complete by October 2024, weather permitting.
Old Narrabri and Turrawan Road Intersection upgrade
Construction on the Old Narrabri and Turrawan Road intersection realignment and sealing is underway. Works are expected to take approximately six months.
Works include reconstruction and sealing of 1.3km of gravel road, pavement strengthening sealing, widening to accommodate heavy vehicle use and dual passage and drainage improvement.
There will also be works associated with culverts and swale drains, minor modifications to levels and minor vegetation clearing.
These works have been made possible through the NSW Government under the Resources for Regions program.
