Bore water screening program registration form
Following the detection of low levels of PFAS in the bores that provide Council’s town water supply, we are getting support as part of a NSW Government bore water screening program for the testing of private bores in Narrabri township. The NSW Environment Protection Authority is offering this testing free of charge on Tuesday, 27 May through to Thursday, 29 May 2025. If you have a private bore on your property, you can register for this testing by completing the form below.
You will be required to attend the property at the scheduled time and will also be asked to provide your signed consent form on your sampling day. If you are not the occupier, consent is required from both the owner and the occupier of the property to complete the sampling.
Town tap water is safe to drink and use.
Registrations will be accepted until 12 noon Friday, 23 May 2025
What will participation involve?
We offer free testing on a voluntary opt-in basis to owners and occupiers of land with private bores in Narrabri to determine the presence of any PFAS. We will take a sample of your groundwater from the bore for testing.
If you participate in the groundwater sampling program, the owner and occupier of the property sampled, will be provided with the results for the property within approximately 4 weeks. We will also help you understand the results.
Do I need to be home for the sampling?
Yes, that is why we ask you to pre-register.
What results will I get?
If you participate in the groundwater sampling program, the owner and occupier of the property sampled, will be provided with the results for the property within approximately 4 weeks. NSW Environment Protection Authority will also help you to understand the results.
Can I drink my bore water?
NSW Health advises that water used for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene should be tested and treated, including disinfection, to ensure it is safe. Guidance is available from NSW Health on the safe use of surface water and groundwater.
I have a bore that is not registered. Can I still request that be tested?
Anyone in Narrabri, with either a registered or un-registered bore, who wants to participate in the sampling program is encouraged to register for the bore water screening program.
