Kerb and gutter replacement works

Kerb and gutter sealing works in Wee Waa and Narrabri are nearing completion, with final stages on Hinds Street and Warrior Street to be completed.

Tullamullen Bridge

Tullamullen Bridge Replacement has been completed with the approach work commencing this week.

Harparary Road

The sealing of a five-kilometre section of Harparary Road is continuing, with completion forecasted for the end of June (weather permitting).

Lake Circuit Road

Lake Circuit upgrade has been subject to delays due to wet weather and is now forecast to be completed in early July.

Water

Sewer mains cleaning and rehabilitation

Interflow Pty Ltd has undertaken cleaning works of the sewer mains between Narrabri Creek and Namoi River. These works were completed on Friday, 20 June.

Sewer mains rehabilitation works will commence on 7 July and will take four weeks to complete.

While Council is aiming to keep disruptions to a minimum, works may include some extra noise, more vehicle movements and a few odours.

Council has written to property owners directly impacted by these works.

Water Main Renewal – Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa

Council has been installing a new water main along Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa to improve local infrastructure.
There was a temporary interruption to water supply in the area on Thursday, 18 June while new services were connected.

PFAS testing results - June

The latest testing results again identified PFAS levels below the current Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. This means that the Narrabri Town Water Supply continues to be safe for consumption.

Additionally, Narrabri Shire Council has confirmed that its drinking water supply meets updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, following a review of the guidelines by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Wee Waa Transfer Station update

On Friday, 13 June, Wee Waa Transfer Station staff noticed an illegal dumping of demolition waste that contained asbestos. The site was closed until the area was correctly cleared and all asbestos removed safely.

Contractors cleared the asbestos materials, and the Transfer Station reopened on Tuesday, 24 June.

  • Works on the pump and tank area of Gately Field remain on track to be completed by the end of the financial year.

Cemetery digitation project

Council has announced the successful completion of its cemetery digitisation project across Narrabri Shire Cemeteries, with Eulah Creek Cemetery coming soon. This initiative enhances the way the community can access and engage with local burial records.

In partnership with Chronicle, the new digital platform allows people to:

  • Search burial records online

  • Navigate to graves with GPS

  • View drone imagery and headstone photos

  • Explore interactive maps of each cemetery

The maps can be accessed via Council's website or the Chronicle website

Work is continuing at Tullamullen Bridge, including the road approaches. Completion for this project remains on track for 30 June.

Harparary Road

The sealing of a five-kilometre section of Harparary Road is underway. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of June (weather permitting), including drainage improvements, culverts and road widening.

Lake Circuit Road

Stage 2 works are continuing following the flood event. As part of these works, access to the Lake via Yarrie Lake Road/Lake Circuit Road remains closed, with alternate access via Nuable Road.

Water

Sewer mains cleaning and rehabilitation

Interflow Pty Ltd will be undertaking cleaning and rehabilitation of sewer mains between Narrabri Creek and Namoi River.

Cleaning works will take place from 10 June to 20 June and will involve CCTV inspections and high pressure water jetting. 

Sewer mains rehabilitation works will take place from 7 July until 9 August.

  • Works on the Gately Field clubhouse have been completed, with the remainder of work on the pump and tank area to be completed by the end of June. 

Roads

Temporary closure - Bald Hill Road at Ten Mile Creek and the Clump Road

Bald Hill Road at Ten Mile Creek was temporarily closed from Wednesday, 21 May, to allow for heavy vehicle access upgrades. The crossing reopened on Friday, 23 May.

These upgrades now enable safe access for heavy vehicles, including agricultural machinery and buses.

This week, works focused on The Clump Road to further reinforce heavy vehicle access. The road reopened on Wednesday.

Please note that supplementary works are scheduled for the week commencing Monday, 2 June. Minor traffic delays are expected on the following roads:

▪️ Tuesday, 3 June – The Clump Road at Bulldog Creek

PFAS private bore sampling program

As part of a NSW Government bore water screening program, free sampling of privately owned bores within the Narrabri community took place from Tuesday, 27 May through to Thursday, 29 May.

Council has been working closely with the EPA to assist in the running of this program.

Water Main Renewal – Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa

Council has begun installing a new water main along Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa to improve local infrastructure. The works involve machinery and open trenches for a short period and traffic control signage in place for safe navigation.

  • Works on the Gately Field clubhouse are completed, with the remainder of work on the pump and tank area to be completed by the end of the financial year.

  • Kerb works in the Narrabri Lawn Cemetery are due for completion by the end of May.

  • Concrete works at Cook Oval, Wee Waa are underway.

Roads

Temporary closure - Bald Hill Road at Ten Mile Creek

Bald Hill Road at Ten Mile Creek will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, 21 May for heavy vehicle access works. The crossing will re-open on Friday, 23 May.

Once completed, it will mean heavy vehicles, including agricultural machinery and buses, will again be able to use this crossing.

Council is asking the community for their patience during these works and asks motorists to please follow all signage and seek an alternative route.

We continue to actively work with grant assessors through the NSW Reconstruction Authority, to secure flood damage funding for a long-term, comprehensive upgrade of this crossing.

PFAS private bore sampling program

As part of a NSW Government bore water screening program, free sampling of privately owned bores within the Narrabri community will be available on an opt-in basis commencing Tuesday, 27 May through to Thursday, 29 May 2025.

Registrations will be accepted until 12 noon Friday, 23 May 2025.

Residents of Narrabri are being offered free bore sampling on their property for PFAS. Participants will receive the results for their bore and the information may help identify sources of PFAS in the water supply.

Town tap water continues to be safe for drink and use.

The program is open to anyone in Narrabri (particularly in the north-west of town), with either a registered or un-registered bore, who wants to participate in the sampling program.

Water Main Renewal – Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa

Council has begun installing a new water main along Lenore Crescent, Wee Waa to improve local infrastructure.

The works will involve machinery and open trenches for a short period and traffic control signage in place for safe navigation.

Residents will be provided advance notice of any water supply disruptions and the main will be installed on the road to reduce impact on driveways/verges.

The road will be fully resealed after works are complete

Council will stay in close contact with residents throughout the project and work to minimise disruption.

Parks and Gardens

  • Works on the Gately Field clubhouse and amenities block are continuing and remain on track for completion end of May.
  • Kerb works in the Narrabri Lawn Cemetery are scheduled for completion at the end of May.
  • Concrete works at Jubilee Oval for seating have been completed. Works will now commence at Cook Oval in Wee Waa.
  • Sports field lighting upgrades across the Shire has seen a great increase in oval utilisation for training this month and bookings for the remainder of the year have increased.

Stage 2 works are continuing following the flood event, which included the pumping out of water. As part of these works, access to the Lake via Yarrie Lake Road/Lake Circuit Road remains closed, with alternate access via Nuable Road.

Greenhill's Quarry Project and field surveys

The first round of field surveys have been completed around the Greenhill's Quarry area as part of the development of the Environmental Impact Statement. A date will be set for undertaking further surveys.
