Australia Day 2026

Aus Day 2026

Join us for the official Narrabri Shire Australia Day 2026 celebrations on Monday, 26 January!

This year’s Australia Day Ambassador is Professor Veena Sahajwalla, an internationally acclaimed materials scientist, engineer and inventor who is revolutionising recycling science.

Her accolades include being named NSW Australian of the Year in 2021 and, most recently, receiving an Order of Australia (AO) in 2025 for distinguished service to science, innovation and community engagement.

Veena also collaborates with councils across Australia to deploy MICROfactories, enabling local recycling solutions and creating new economic opportunities. Professor Sahajwalla will attend Australia Day events in Boggabri and Narrabri.
