Violet Street Bridge replacement project

The replacement of Narrabri’s Violet Street Bridge has achieved a major milestone with completion of foundation piling works.

  • Pier piles are being cut down to the design level, with steelwork for pile caps underway.
  • The old bridge piers, which were used to support the temporary pile guide frames, will be demolished in mid-July.
  • The bridge’s next milestone will include the construction of the pile caps, blade piers and the abutment at the Selina Street end of the bridge. This is expected to take around six weeks.
  • Construction of the headstocks and placement of the girders will then take place.

More information about the Violet Street Bridge replacement can be found on the project’s website

Transfer stations reminder

Council is seeing increased rates of contamination at our transfer stations, including a recent illegal dumping of concrete timber, steel and bulky waste.

A reminder that transfer stations are for household quantities of waste only.

Concrete and other building/commercial waste is not accepted.

ALL commercial and business waste must be taken to the Narrabri Waste Management Facility (which is licenced to receive all solid waste) or by arrangement with local waste disposal companies.

Batteries disposal

A reminder that lithium-ion batteries are not accepted at the Narrabri Waste Management Facility or the Community Recycling Centre. This includes laptops, tablets, mobile phones, chargers and accessories.

Community Recycling Stations are located at Council’s Administration Building and The Crossing Theatre. These stations provide free disposal of domestic quantities of the following:

  • e-waste - such as laptops and tablets
  • household batteries
  • smoke detectors
  • fluorescent bulbs
  • mobile phones, batteries, chargers and accessories (via the Mobile Muster bin)

Put it in the right bin!

We’re seeing increased instances of contamination in kerbside recycling bins and food and garden organics (FOGO) bins – including hazardous items such as needles and even dead animals. This puts our staff and contractors at serious risk.

  • Do not dispose of food waste, dirty nappies or dead animals in the recycling bin.
  • FOGO bin is only for: Fruit and vegetable scraps; meat, bones, and seafood; garden organics, leaves, weeds, branches and twigs; ground coffee and loose-leaf tea; newspaper, paper towel and paper bags.
  • Sharps should be disposed of in a yellow sharps disposal container. See the list of local sharps disposal locations.
  • Nothing hazardous that can damage machines such as netting, hoses, wires, building materials, broken glass, chemicals or other hazardous materials.

Read more about recycling right.

See EPA NSW’s FOGO frequently asked questions.

Don’t forget to put your bins out the night before

A reminder to residents with a bin collection service, to please put your bins out the night before collection. Our contractor collects bins early in the morning - so putting bins out the night before ensures your bin is not missed.

To find out more, including the waste collection calendar, please head to our website.
