Community Story Circle

Narrabri Shire Libraries invites community members of all ages to take part in Community Story Circle, a four-week, intergenerational program celebrating storytelling, connection and shared history.

Held weekly at Narrabri Library, the program provides a culturally safe and inclusive space for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal participants to come together, share experiences and explore identity through storytelling.

Grounded in the traditions of the Gamilaraay people, Community Story Circle draws on the practice of yarning, oral history and connection to Country. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own family and community histories while learning from the knowledge and perspectives of others.

Across the four-week program, participants will engage in:

  • Shared yarning and storytelling
  • Creative and reflective writing activities
  • Exploration of personal, family and community histories
  • Conversations that build understanding across generations and cultures

The program supports the development of literacy and communication skills while strengthening connections within the community.

Each program concludes with the creation of a Community Story Book, featuring contributions from participants. These books will form part of a growing archive at Narrabri Library, preserving local stories for future generations.
