Heritage Study
Narrabri Shire Council is currently undertaking a Heritage Study to help identify the people, places, and items that tell the story of our region’s past.
We want to hear from the community about places that matter! Whether they are tied to local history, culture, special memories, or simply because they are beautiful or unique.
What is a Heritage Study?
A Heritage Study looks at the history of a place and identifies items that are important to the local community. This could include:
- Historic buildings or landmarks
- Natural features like trees, rivers, or hills
- Places linked to early settlement or local events
- Locations with strong community or cultural significance
How You Can Get Involved
We are inviting community members to nominate places they believe are important to Narrabri Shire’s story. These nominations will help shape a local inventory of heritage items and may be included in future planning and preservation efforts.
Community Information Sessions
These sessions are a chance to learn more about the Shire’s heritage, ask questions, and share the places and stories that matter most to you. Heritage consultant Ray Christison will deliver a short presentation, followed by a Q&A and one-on-one discussions with community members who would like to nominate a site or place.
Dates & times:
- Wee Waa Library – Tue 23 Sept, 10.30am–12.30pm
- Pilliga Community Centre – Tue 23 Sept, 3pm–5pm
- Narrabri Library – Wed 24 Sept, 3pm–5pm

The final report will help guide how Council protects and celebrates our local heritage into the future.
