Brekkie on the Bridge
Before the Violet Street Bridge is demolished, Narrabri Shire Council is inviting the community to take part in a special farewell event – Brekkie on the Bridge.
Opening in May of 1975, the Violet Street Bridge has served the community well for nearly 50 years, decades beyond its indented lifespan. It has seen many floods and despite the impact of such events, it is still standing today. However, due to age, declining load capacity and flood efficiencies, the bridge is now set to be replaced in 2026.
This one-off community event will give residents the chance to:
- Walk across the bridge one last time.
- Learn about the history of the structure
- Hear from Council staff and project engineers about why replacement is necessary
- Find out how the new bridge will be built
- Enjoy a bacon and egg roll on Council.
The event will conclude with a final commemorative photo on the bridge, just days before demolition begins.
