Narrabri Shire Council is please to announce the successful acquisition of a $144,000 grant from the Resources for Regions Round 8, administered by the Department of Regional NSW. This grant will be dedicated to the development of the Narrabri Waste Facility Cells 2-4 Future Project Planning and Design.

The grant will enable council to embark on a comprehensive project aimed at enhancing and expanding the waste management infrastructure within the Shire. The primary objectives of this project include the preparation of tender documents, contract award, research, and the creation of detailed designs for cells 2-4 at the Narrabri Shire Waste Facility.

Key components of the project include:

  1. Tender Document Preparation: The council will prepare detailed tender documents and subsequently release the project for tender. This step will ensure a transparent and competitive selection process for contractors.
  2. Interim Cell Design: Extensive research will be conducted to develop interim cell designs for cells 2-4. These designs will provide a preliminary framework for the construction of these waste cells.
  3. Detailed "For Construction" Designs: In addition to interim designs, the project will focus on creating detailed "for construction" designs for cells 2-4. These designs will provide the necessary blueprints for the actual construction phase.
  4. Regulatory Planning Requirements: The project will involve comprehensive research into the regulatory planning requirements necessary for the construction and operation of cells 2-4. Compliance with all relevant regulations is a top priority.
  5. Leachate Management Plan: The development of a leachate management plan for cells 2-4 will ensure the responsible and environmentally conscious handling of waste byproducts, minimising potential impacts on the environment.
  6. Surface Water Management Plan: Research and development will also encompass the creation of a surface water management plan to address and mitigate the potential impacts on surface water resources around cells 2-4.

This grant will allow Narrabri Shire Council to take significant strides toward the responsible management of waste within the community. By ensuring that waste disposal is conducted efficiently, sustainably, and in compliance with regulations, council is committed to providing residents with a cleaner, safer, and more environmentally conscious waste management system.

"Narrabri Shire Council is grateful for the support from the Department of Regional NSW through the Resources for Regions Round 8 grant.” Said Mayor Darrell Tiemens

“This grant will propel the development of the Narrabri Waste Facility Cells 2-4 Future Project Planning and Design. This investment will enable us to create a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future for our Shire.”

This grant aligns with and will greatly contribute to the implementation of the waste strategy set to be adopted during the upcoming October Ordinary Council Meeting. This project signifies a step forward in addressing the community's waste management needs and perfectly aligns with council's strategic vision.

Narrabri Shire Council is pleased to partner with external contractors who will help turn this vision into a reality. This grant is a testament to the council's commitment to the long-term sustainability of the Narrabri Shire and its residents.
