The Violet Street Bridge will be closed from Monday, 19 January to the end of September 2026 for bridge replacement works. A detour will be in place along Selina Street, Newell Highway and Tibbereena Street.

Local Government NSW released the latest cost shifting report in July 2025, which highlighted a total cost shift to councils of $1.5 billion in 2023-24, which is the equivalent of more than $490 per ratepayer annually.
At the August 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting, Deputy Mayor Brett Dickinson and Councillors noted the findings of this report with the recommendation that Council writes to the Premier, the NSW Treasurer and the NSW Minister for Local Government seeking that they urgently address these costs through a combination of regulatory reform and appropriate funding.
