The Violet Street Bridge remains closed until November 2026 for bridge replacement works. A detour is in place along Selina Street, Newell Highway and Tibbereena Street.

Council will commence essential upgrade works on the Elizabeth Street bore from 7:00am on Tuesday, 21 October, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the town’s safe and sustainable water supply.
The upgrade will improve the bore’s pumping capacity, allowing Council to draw more PFAS-free water into the town’s reservoir each day. The works are expected to take around three days to complete, during which time the bore will be offline.
Council’s General Manager, Eloise Chaplain, said the project marks an important milestone in the broader plan to secure Narrabri’s water future.
“This upgrade is a key step in improving our local water network and ensuring we can continue to provide safe, reliable drinking water for the community,” Ms Chaplain said.
“We know how hard the community has worked to reduce their water use, and that continued effort will be especially important while these works are underway.”
Council encourages all residents and businesses to continue following Level 3 Water Restrictions and to conserve water wherever possible.
