At an Extraordinary Council Meeting held on 9 July, Council endorsed the Local Orders Policy and Local Approvals Policy to be placed on Public Exhibition.
The Local Orders Policy guides Narrabri Shire Council when enacting its regulatory responsibilities.
The Local Approvals Policy lists activities that do not need a separate approval from Council and outlines the criteria for those activities where exemptions do not apply, and approval is required.
Both policies are on Public Exhibition until 5.00pm Thursday, 7 August, with submissions accepted up until 5.00pm Thursday, 21 August 2025.
More information regarding these polices and how to make a submission is available from Council’s Your Say page.
Mayoral Minute – Murray Darling Association membership
Following a Mayoral Minute report concerning the Murray Darling Association, Council resolved to:
1. Become a member of the Murray Darling Association (MDA), effective immediately.
2. Commit to paying the annual membership fee of approximately $3,900 (ex GST) per year from within current budget allocations.
3. Acknowledge the strategic importance of MDA membership and commit to active participation in its regional and Basin-wide initiatives.
The MDA is the peak representative body for local government in the Murray-Darling Basin. It exists to ensure communities have a direct voice in water management decisions through state and federal advocacy, informed debate and inter-council collaboration.
More than 170 member councils across four states participate in the MDA, including most councils in the north-west of New South Wales.
