Roads

Violet Street Bridge update

The completion of the replacement Violet Street Bridge has been delayed until mid-November, due to difficult ground conditions encountered during piling, resulting in an adjustment to the overall project timeline.

The project is now programmed to be finished and open to traffic in mid-November 2026, subject to weather conditions.

Council is currently working with the project’s contractor on anticipated cost increases due to the adjusted program schedule. A report regarding these costs will be presented to Councillors at next month’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Despite the program adjustment, works are continuing at a steady pace, with installation of the precast pile caps for Pier 3 and Pier 2 as well as construction of the abutment on the Tibbereena Street side. Steel fixing has also been completed for the abutment on the Selina Street side.

Upcoming works will focus on construction of the Pier 2 and Pier 3 blade walls.

August will involve the construction and installation of the precast pile cap for the Pier 1 pile group and the Pier 1 blade wall, along with demolition of existing bridge piers.

Construction of the headwalls for each pier will also take place, as will construction of Abutment A.

September will see works move to the installation of bridge girders and construction of the bridge deck.

Waste

Narrabri Waste Management Facility expansion

The Narrabri Waste Management Facility expansion is progressing well and is currently tracking well ahead of schedule. (See image below.)

The project includes the construction of two adjoining landfill cells (Cell 2 and Cell 3) and associated infrastructure.

This expansion project is important in terms of continuing to support landfill operations within the existing site and meet the Shire's future waste management requirements.

LoopedIn Councils waste app

From 10 August, Narrabri Shire Council will be moving to the new LoopedIn Councils app. 

The LoopedIn Councils app makes it easy to access:

• Report an issue or request a service
• Waste and Recycling Centre information and opening hours 

Residents will be able to download the app in three easy steps!

• Visit the App Store ‎or Google Play store
• Download the “LoopedIn Councils” app from 10 August
• Select “Narrabri Shire Council” during setup.

If you're currently using the Narrabri Shire Waste App you will need to download the new LoopedIn Councils app from 10 August to continue accessing waste and recycling services information.

Water/Sewer

• Daily monitoring of bore operations and reservoir levels to ensure the water supply is sustainable and secure.
• Routine treated water testing at the Namoi Street reservoirs, with all results indicating the Narrabri drinking water supply meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
• Daily monitoring of the reservoir levels, which show that water supply is stable.
• Water meter replacements are continuing in Narrabri and Wee Waa.    
• Council's Infrastructure Team is actively reviewing short, medium and long-term water security strategies, including the Temporary Water Treatment Plant and investigation into the Saleyards Bore. A report, including options and associated costs, will be presented to Councillors for consideration.
