Published on 21 October 2025
Narrabri Shire Council continues to conduct PFAS testing on the Narrabri Town Water Supply.
The latest testing results of the Namoi Reservoir have shown PFAS levels as below current guidelines.
This means that the Narrabri Town Water Supply continues to be safe for consumption.

The latest testing results follows the continued safe reintroduction of water from the Tibbereena Street bore to supplement water supplied from the Elizabeth Street bore (of which testing of this bore continues to show no detection of PFAS).
The Killarney bore remains switched off after testing in early July showed Namoi Reservoir levels slightly above current guidelines.
Council has commenced essential upgrade works on the Elizabeth Street bore as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the town’s safe and sustainable water supply.
The upgrade will improve the bore’s pumping capacity, allowing Council to draw more PFAS-free water into the town’s reservoir each day. The works are expected to take around three days to complete, during which time the bore will be offline.
During this time, Council asks residents and businesses to continue to use water wisely and follow the current Level 3 Water Restrictions to help maintain stable reservoir levels while the work is underway.
During October, Council will continue testing the water supply weekly, the results of which will be reported back to residents.

NSW Health continues to recommend that private bore owners consider testing their groundwater.
