Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens has congratulated this year’s recipients of Australia Day awards, which were presented during the day’s celebrations earlier today.

“This year’s award recipients have all contributed so much to our Shire, and it’s fantastic to see them recognised for these incredible efforts,” Cr Tiemens said.

“It was a great honour to present these awards to our recipients, including our Citizen of the Year Joan Griffiths and our Young Citizen of the Year Sophie Hartnett.

“Both are very worthy award recipients, who continue to go above and beyond for their community.”

This community dedication was also recognised through awards for Community Group Service, Junior Sportsperson of the Year (recognising Junior Sportsman and Junior Sportswoman), Senior Sportsperson of the Year, Community Arts and Cultural Development, and Environmental Award.

Cr Tiemens thanked everyone who put forward nominations for this year’s awards.

“It was heartening to see the number of nominations that came through from our community nominating their fellow residents, and I thank everyone who took the time to submit nominations.

“I encourage those whose nominations didn’t receive an award, to put it forward for consideration for next year’s Australia Day awards,” Cr Tiemens added.

Australia Day 2024 in Narrabri Shire saw communities from across the region come together to in celebration with events taking place at Boggabri, Narrabri, and Wee Waa.
