On Wednesday, we gathered alongside community members and Council staff to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025 – The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy – with a flag raising ceremony, followed by a morning tea.

Our ceremony began with the Acknowledgement of Country by young Austin Stanford, who did a truly outstanding job. We commend his confidence and dedication, especially at such a young age.

We extend our sincere thanks to Uncle Barry Toomey and Aunty June for the honour of raising the flags at this year’s ceremony.

Yesterday also saw the unveiling of Narrabri Shire Council’s newest addition to our staff uniform. As part of local government, and as members of the local community, we are deeply committed to cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion. Introducing an Indigenous-designed uniform is a meaningful way to honour Aboriginal contributions, create visible recognition, and build a legacy for future generations of Council employees.

The artwork reflects the communities across Narrabri Shire and the rivers and roads that connect them - a powerful story of connection, community and Country.

We encourage everyone to get involved in the many NAIDOC Week activities happening across the region this week, as we come together to celebrate and reflect.
