The Department of Education has advised Council today that drainage works along Charles Street, Wee Waa, will begin on Tuesday, 16 May 2023.
These works include excavating pits along Charles Street to access storm water drainpipes.

The existing storm water drain pipes will be removed and replaced during the works to increase the storm water infrastructure capacity from the new Wee Waa High School.

To complete these works, a road closure of Charles Street between Mitchell Street and Boundary Street will be required, and access to the road will be restricted to residents - works are expected to take approximately 26 weeks to complete.

A traffic management plan will be in place during the works to support the safe access of residents, this includes:

  • A ‘no through traffic- resident only’ sign and barrier placed at each side of Charles Street
  • Road closed signs at either side of Charles Street and 50 metres from the intersections at Mitchell Street and Boundary Street.
  • During work hours, residents will be escorted through the work site by traffic control personnel
  • After work hours, the barrier will be moved to provide access for residents.

Approved construction hours are between 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays.

The Department of Education thanks residents for their patience while undertaking these works as part of the Wee Waa High School redevelopment.
