Important Notice: Closure of Wee Waa Transfer Station – Update

Narrabri Shire Council apologies for the inconvenience that the closure of the Wee Waa Transfer Station has caused. The health and safety of our community are our top priority, and we are committed to resolving this matter efficiently.

Council is working hard to get the contaminated asbestos waste cleared and have the site returned to normal operations. We'd like to take this opportunity to remind residents to check our website for information on what can be disposed of at our Transfer Stations across the Shire.

The following actions have been taken following Friday's closure to have the site reo-opened to the public:

  • A hygienist has been engaged to assess whether the asbestos is friable or bonded. This assessment will determine the appropriate site clean-up measures, including whether air monitoring is required during removal and if soil sampling is necessary afterwards. The assessment is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday 17 June.
  • A licensed asbestos removalist is scheduled to undertake clean-up activities on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 June, pending the outcomes of the hygienist’s assessment.
  • Council is hoping to resume normal operations of the Wee Waa Transfer Station on Saturday, 21 June.
